Why recommend Renamil®?
Milk is a versatile food enjoyed by most people but due to its high protein, potassium and phosphate content, it is often restricted in the diets of patients with renal failure. This can severely limit energy and calcium intake and lead to a diet lacking in variety and palatability1.
Renamil® is a nutritional supplement/milk substitute formulated for patients with renal failure. It is supplied as a powder which can be added to foods or mixed with water to make a ‘milk-like’ solution. It is restricted in protein, low in potassium, phosphate, sodium, magnesium and chloride, free from gluten high in energy and calcium and contains water soluble vitamins1.
Although a product may be initially acceptable, on a long-term basis ‘flavour fatigue’ can develop1. Trying different textures, consistencies and flavours of supplements has been suggested to aid compliance, particularly in those requiring long term supplementation2.
With Renamil®; patients have more choice, versatility and flexibility with the format of their diet. Renamil can be added to a variety of food and drinks requiring a milk-like taste thus aiding patient compliance.
