Vaginal dryness and atrophy is a common and disturbing condition experienced by women during the menopause, breast feeding or as a side effect of certain medications and medical treatments.
 

Its main cause is a decrease in the levels of the hormone oestrogen. When oestrogen levels drop the vagina loses its natural elasticity as blood flow to the vaginal walls and natural secretions decrease. This causes the lining of the vagina to become thinner and more fragile while a change in the normal pH makes tissues more vulnerable to bacteria.

Symptoms include itching, irritation and discomfort and even pain during intercourse.

REPLENS MD, applied using an applicator, coats the entire vaginal passage to provide immediate relief of dry skin cells. Once in place REPLENS MD delivers continuous moisture for up to 72 hours from one application as the purified water migrates into the dehydrated tissues. REPLENS MD contains purified water (78.8%) as the active ingredient. This is slowly released from polycarbophil, which is an inert acidic bioadhesive polymer that clings to the vaginal walls and serves to hold the gel in place.
REPLENS MD also contains mineral oil, glycerine, hydrogenated palm oil glyceride, Carbomer 947P, sorbic acid, sodium hydroxide and methylparabens (35 g tube only).
REPLENS MD does not contain any drug or animal derivatives. It is safe to use with condoms. It is not a spermicide and does not affect the ability to conceive. A preservative-free version is available in pre-filled applicators only.

• Wear breathable cotton underwear and loose clothing until symptoms improve.
